THE PRESS AND SENSITIZATION OF THE PUBLIC ON FAKE DRUGS IN NIGERIA; AN EVALUATION OF THE COVERAGE OF NAFDAC BY THE NIGERIA PRESS.
ABSTRACT
This study is undertaken to look into the news coverage of National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control using the coverage of NAFDAC by the Nigeria press between 2009 and 2010 as a case study. Issues regarding fake drugs and adulterated products in Nigeria is an important. Fake and adulterated has ruined many lives and so cut many live short and even spoiled the economy. The press is a body that is well concerned about this problem and they can help the government to fight the menace of fake drug and adulterated drugs in the country. The study attempt to look at the extent of coverage of NAFDAC activities by the press. This is done in order to know the effectiveness of NAFDAC activities help in safeguarding the health of the nation. The researcher will in the course of study look at the support given to the agency by corporate, religion, governmental bodies to be able to discharge its duties adequately. Also the researcher will look to the coverage on prosecution and arrest of the offenders who deal with producing and selling fake and adulterated drugs, drinks and foods.
