ABSTRACT
This study assesses plastic waste recycling against ecosystem pollution. Faced with the problem of [summary of problem], the study was guided by the following objectives;
- To examine the relationship between Plastic waste recycling and ecosystem depollution in Lagos State, Nigeria
- To identify the challenges in plastic waste recycling as against ecosystem pollution in Lagos State, Nigeria.
- 3. To identify the techniques adopted to promote plastic waste recycling against ecosystem pollution in Lagos State, Nigeria
The study employed descriptive and explanatory design, questionnaires in addition to library research were applied in order to collect data. Primary and secondary data sources were used and data was analyzed using statistical package which was presented in frequency tables and percentage. The respondents under the study were 30 Residents of Lagos State Nigeria. The study findings revealed that there is a significant impact [plastic waste recycling ] has on [ecosystem pollution]. Linear regression significant at 0.05 level (2-tailed), 0.00 indicates the significance of interaction between two variables an indication that the significant is under the range of 0.0 and 0.05.
Using the above findings, it implied that there is a strong relationship between [plastic wastes recycling] and [ecosystem pollution]. Key recommendations from the study are;
1. Poor waste management practices prevalent in the country should be addressed by urging businesses to stop providing free plastic bags.
- Water sachets and bottles have proliferated in Nigeria due to a lack of drinkable water in many homes, government must ensure access to clean water as well as educate the public about the dangers of discarding water sachets and bottles in the environment
- The long-awaited “plastic pollution bill” should be passed by Nigerian legislators and swiftly signed into law
- Proper Sensitization should be done to create awareness on the properly disposal of waste.
- Law Enforcement on Waste management should be raised to ensure citizens responsibility on the subject matter
