THE FUTURE OF DATABASE MANAGEMENT IN THE ERA OF BIG DATA AND CLOUD COMPUTING IN NIGERIA.

INTRODUCTION

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

Database is the set of related data and the system it is organized. The database management system" (DBMS) consist of an integrated set of computer software which facilitate the use and the  access to datas contained in the database and to interface with different databases even though  certain limitations may exist. The DBMS is a system which facilitate the entry, storage and retrieval of large amount of data as well as the management and organization of data. The advent of big data is as result of the generation of large volume of data. Bachman, Charles W. (1973). According to the  Journal of Science 2008, “Big Data depicts the advancement  of human cognitive processes, consisting of  large data sets which cannot be processed  by the ability of current technology, Gartner views  it as  large volume,  high-velocity,  and large variety information  assets  which need   new  forms  of  processing  for enhanced  decision  making,  insight  discovery  and  process optimization.

The concept of Cloud Computing proffers a type of computing which deliver services through the Internet or network of servers. The objective of Cloud Computing is to utilize computing power to carry out a large pool of instruction per second.  Cloud Computing  utilizes networks  of  a large  group  of servers  with  specialized  connections to  disseminate processed data   among  the  servers.  The use of cloud computing technologies, enables the installation of   a  single  software  in  a  computer  which  is the host computer and users can log into a web-based service  that host all the programs to accessed it. The study seeks to appraise the future of database management in the era of big data and cloud computing in Nigeria.

1.2 STATEMENT   OF   THE PROBLEM

The processing of large volume of data has exacted numerous challenges.

These  Cloud  computing  technology  poses a lot of  security  issues  due to the fact that it   involves numerous  technologies which include networks,  databases,  operating  systems,  virtualization,  resource  allocation,  containerization, resource  scheduling,  transaction management, load balancing, concurrency control, managing  contents distribution in a content delivery network (CDN) and  memory management.  The problem confronting the study is to appraise the future of database management in the era of big data and cloud computing in Nigeria.

1.3 OBJECTIVE   OF THE STUDY

1.9 DEFINITION OF TERMS

CLOUD COMPUTING DEFINED

Cloud Computing proffers a type of computing which deliver services through the Internet or network of servers.

DATA BASE MANAGEMENT DEFINED

The database management system" (DBMS) consist of an integrated set of computer software which facilitate the use and the  access to datas contained in the database and to interface with different databases even though  certain limitations may exist that limit access to particular data. The DBMS is a system which facilitate the entry, storage and retrieval of large amount of data as well as the management and organization of data.

PROCUREMENT DEFINED

Procurement is defined as the process of searching, finding, agreeing to terms, and buying   goods, services, or works from an external source, through the process of tendering or competitive bidding process.

BIG DATA DEFINED

Big Data depicts the advancement  of human cognitive processes, consisting of  large data sets which cannot be processed  by the ability of current technology, Gartner views  it as  large volume,  high-velocity,  and large variety information  assets  which need   new  forms  of  processing  for enhanced  decision  making,  insight  discovery  and  process optimization.
