EMPLOYEES HEALTH AND SAFTY AT WORKPLACE OF CONSTRUCTION AND INTERIOR.

INTRODUCTION

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

 The World Health Organization (WHO) defines occupational health as dealing with every domain of work place health and safety and has a strong focus on primary prevention of hazards. Occupational health is concerned with the promotion of health and safety at the work place thereby preventing harm from any incidental hazards, arising in the workplace. Occupational safety and health is a multidisciplinary field which focuses on the safety, health, and welfare of people at work.

ILO (1995). focuses on three different objectives which include, maintaining and promoting workers’ health and working capacity, improving the working environment and work for health, safety and conduciveness and the enhancement of work organizations and working cultures for employee health and safety at the work  place ; thereby promoting a social climate that is positive ,smooth operation and  productivity of the organization.  The objective of occupational safety and health programs is to provide a safe and healthy work environment; protect the employees and their family members, employers, customers, and others who have dealings with the organization. The study seeks to appraise   employees’ health and safety at workplace of construction and interior.

 

1.2 STATEMENT   OF   THE PROBLEM

The construction industry provides one of the most dangerous employment and occupations globally leading to major occupational accidents and deaths than any other sector. Since 2009, the fatal occupational injury rate among construction workers has increased extranomically. This is due to the high level of risk to which construction workers are exposed to. Consequently the practice of occupational health and safety is to provide a working environment that is free from hazards. The problem confronting the study is to appraise employees’ health and safety at workplace of construction and interior.

 

 

 

 

1.3 OBJECTIVE   OF THE STUDY

The Main Objective of the study is to proffer an appraisal of employees’ health and safety at workplace of construction and interior; The specific objectives include

    1 To determine the relevance of employees’ health and safety.

2 To determine the level of employees’ health and safety in construction and interior

1.5 STATEMENT OF THE HYPOTHESIS

The statement of the hypothesis for the study is stated in Null as follows

HO   The level of employees health and safety in construction and interior is high

 

 

 

1.6 SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

The study proffers an appraisal of employees’ health and safety at workplace of construction and interior; It provides relevant data for the effective formulation and implementation of policies to enhance the realization of envisaged objective.

HEALTH DEFINED

This is a person condition of complete physical, mental social well-being and freedom from disease or infirmity.

 

HAZARD DEFINED

This is any thing which can cause harm if not controlled.
