STRATEGIES FOR MOTIVATING AND MAINTAINING STUDENTS INTEREST IN CREATIVE ART AT JUNIOR SECONDARY LEVEL IN EGGON LGA OF NASARAWA STATE

INTRODUCTION

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

The Creative art is characterized by originality of thought or inventiveness. It is having the ability or power to create and having or showing an imagination of a creative mind. Ameet Patel, (2007). According to the New Oxford American Dictionary, creativity is the use of imagination or original ideas for the production of an artistic work. Creative arts are activities which engage a student imagination   fosters flexibility of the mind such as art, dance, drama, puppetry, and music. They foster flexibility of the mind, stimulate and assist the students in virtually every other spheres of life. creative arts is the process of  teaching students to understand that the method by which you arrive at the destination that is progressively more and more product-driven is  more significant than the destination itself. The benefits of creative arts include enhancing the physical, emotional and mental health. Varying types of creative arts activities help children to build up their abilities in both categories of motion. The arts have always been considered to be a passionate and expressive pastime. Arts help adults express and release difficult feelings they might otherwise have difficulty expressing, the arts help students to explore their emotional and deal with the ups and downs that will become a part of their lives as they grow older. According to researchers, the creative arts enhances the development of the children’s cognitive abilities. It stimulates the use of imagination, which in turn stimulates and expands their mental capacities. According to Lev Vygotsky, such play enables kids to learn new things, and understand it and also develop their physical, emotional, and mental capabilities. As such, it is imperative that we provide greater chances for students to engage in the creative arts, so as to provide the foundation for later success.

The study seek to appraise the   strategies for motivating and maintaining students

1.2 STATEMENT   OF   THE PROBLEM

Many students feel they have no talent for creative arts and feel even reluctant to learn, practice and display artistic talent. Students who are unmotivated harbor negative attitudes towards arts education and find it hard to develop the skill. While some feel the ability for creative arts are only inherited talent. Creative arts enhances the development of the physical, emotional and mental capabilities of the students.  The problem confronting the study is to appraise the strategies for motivating and maintaining students Interest in creative art at junior secondary level in eggon local government of nassarawa state.

The Main Objective of the study is to appraise the strategies for motivating and maintaining students Interest in creative art at junior secondary level in eggon local government of nassarawa state; The specific objectives include
