ISSUE OF FEMALE VICTIMIZATION (THEMATIC EXPLORATION) IN BUCHI EMECHETA’S SECOND CLASS CITIZEN

ABSTRACT

The study focused on the thematic analysis of Second Class Citizen. This issue is also known as gender inequality has become very prominent in the last few decades. Buchi Emecheta’a Second Class Citizen has been explained from different prospective by critics because of how it portrays the plight of women in Nigerian society. Many of these previous readings, of course, have been feminist-oriented. However, what is left is a work that examines the important nexus between victimhood and depression. This work a thematic analysis of the text through a narrow critical recommendation of the depression the major character suffers with her status as a victim of a depressing partricirchal system. The study adopted the narrative theory because the author narrated her personal experiences. The study critically revealed that among the issues that women suffer in the hand s of men are gender discrimination, rejection and depression resulting from imbalance responsibility. However, the problems that women faced could gradually transform them to become great achievers.
